ITT Exelis receives $25 million order to provide communications equipment for international customer

FORT WAYNE, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ITT Exelis (NYS: XLS) has received a $25 million order to provide a wide range of communications equipment to an international customer. This Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program contract was awarded by the U.S. Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

The award includes the delivery of Exelis International Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) VHF Base Stations and Vehicular Systems in single and dual radio configurations. SINCGARS provides secure VHF voice and data communications capability to tactical units. With more than 600,000 radios delivered to date to the United States and more than 30 of its allies, SINCGARS is the most prolific tactical radio system in the world.

It also includes Spearhead VHF Handheld Radios, unit and intermediate level spares, installation services and field service representative support. The ITT Exelis Spearhead VHF portable handheld tactical radio provides dismounted soldiers secure, frequency-hopping voice and packet data with integrated GPS in a small, lightweight package that is fully interoperable with the international SINCGARS.

"This order builds on the customer's substantial Exelis-installed radio product base in a very challenging security environment," said Ken Harrison, vice president of the International Night Vision and Tactical Communications Systems business area. "We will continue to work hard to fulfill U.S. and allied communications requirements with our tactical radio products."

The FMS program is the government-to-government method for selling U.S. defense equipment, services and training to allied nations. The award is part of an FMS Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded to Exelis by CECOM in 2008. To date, Exelis has received approximately $451 million in orders under the IDIQ contract.
