Alcatel-Lucent Signs $1 Billion India Contract
In a Wednesday press release, French telecom equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent announced that it has agreed to a network services contract with Indian carrier Reliance Communications.
The $1 billion deal aims to improve customer experience and service through India's southern and eastern regions, providing voice and data communications to Reliance customers. It's Alcatel-Lucent's first announced Indian deal in seven months, according to Bloomberg, and marks the first fully integrated strategic communications agreement in the South Asian nation, according to the companies.
Munish Seth, president and managing director of Alcatel-Lucent India, commented on the strengths of the deal in the release, saying, "We believe that our extensive experience with Reliance Communications has played a major part in the expansion of our existing relationship, and the awarding of what is one of the largest and most strategic contracts for us to date. This is a significant milestone for Alcatel-Lucent in India." The deal is set to run through 2020.
