NRA: Practice Range hits iOS a month after Sandy Hook (for kids 4+)

Update: According to Kotaku, Apple has raised the minimum age requirement for NRA: Practice Range to 12 years old.

The National Rifle Association, through developer MEDL Mobile, has released NRA: Practice Range on the iOS App Store. Just like it sounds, NRAL Practice Range is a free-to-play shooting range that has been deemed appropriate for players four-years-old and up by both the NRA and Apple.

The game features several shooting ranges with human-shaped targets using nine weapons (some of which long-range and fully automatic). The organization claims in the app's preview page that the game is "the NRA's new mobile nerve center, delivering one-touch access to the NRA network of news, laws, facts, knowledge, safety tips, educational materials and online resources."

But, as The Atlantic points out, what it looks like is target practice with automatic weapons that any kid with an iOS device in reach has access to. Better yet, if a kid wants a digital AK-47, they can pick one up and pepper those human-shaped targets for a measly $0.99. Not only does this come an exact after the tragedy at Sandy Hook, but after NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre muttered gems like this:

"And here's another dirty little truth that the media try their best toconceal: There exists in this country a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people." ... "And then they have the nerve to call it 'entertainment' But is that what it really is? Isn't fantasizing about killing people as away to get your kicks really the filthiest form of pornography."
