Should You Be Concerned About AIG's Leadership?

Updated

In the following video, Fool analyst Matt Koppenheffer talks about the leadership at AIG and what investors need to watch.

Matt is a fan of current AIG CEO Robert Benmosche, who he says has done a great job of bringing the company back from the brink. He's spun off non-core assets and shored up AIG's balance sheet.

Unfortunately, Matt says, Benmosche won't be the CEO for the long term. He came out of retirement to lead AIG, and he'll be returning to retirement in the next few years.

Investors will want to pay close attention to who takes over and what the person's background is, Matt says. Will he or she continue down Benmosche's path?

Matt has some confidence that a good leader will be chosen, since Benmosche will be leading the succession team that will pick the next CEO.

Still, investors will need to keep a close eye on how that CEO performs.

Before Benmosche's arrival, AIG brought the financial world to its knees, and most investors are still wary about owning a stake in AIG today. We'll fill you in on both reasons to buy and reasons to sell AIG, and what areas that AIG investors need to watch going forward.. Just click here now for instant access.
