Level 3 Communications Inks NATO Deal

Updated

Telecom giant Level 3 Communications announced Monday that its affiliate Level 3 Communications B.V., has signed a contract with the NATO Communications and Information Agency to install and take care of an IP Virtual Private Network for the NATO-Russia Council Cooperative Airspace Initiative (NRC CAI), an information exchange between NATO countries and Russia to prevent aerospace terrorism.

The Level 3-maintained network will connect NATO monitoring facilities that watch NATO and Russian airspace. It will also allow the facilities real-time observation and display of said airspaces.

Level 3 regional vice president of EMEA, James Heard, was quoted in a company press statement as saying, "The Level 3 network and our IP VPN services are designed for performance, security and productivity, and we are pleased to be selected by NATO to provide IP VPN-based infrastructure between the key locations of the CAI network."

Financial terms of the agreement were not released in the statement.
