The legendary Pokemon in X and Y have crazy complicated names

Yesterday, we saw what the next generation of Pokemon looks like in the upcoming X and Y versions for the 3DS. We also learned the names of those adorable starter Pokemon: Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie. Today, we now know the names of those comparatively badass legendary Pokemon that will more than likely adore the boxes these games come in this October.

Xerneas and Yveltal. Wait ... is that Yuh-veil-tall? Nope. These names are so damned goofy that The Pokemon Company opted to provide phonetic spelling and proper pronunciation for each of these beasts. Xerneas, the X-shaped, pegasus ... reindeer-looking thing, is pronounced "ZURR-nee-us", while the name of the Y-shaped phoenix sounds like "ee-VELL-tall".

Got that? Good. Go ahead and watch that gorgeous trailer all over again while you wait not-so-patiently for October to get here already. Knowing what the hell to call those things--you'd run out of ideas after over a decade, too--makes it all the more sweeter. And whaddya know, the trailer made it into this post again. We aim to please.

What do you think of these goofy names? Are you psyched for October now? Sound off in the comments. Add Comment.
