Qualcomm Introduces Newest Snapdragon Processors

Updated

Chip maker Qualcomm on Monday revealed its new Snapdragon 600 and 800 processors, the company's latest generation of mobile processing chips.

The chips, which were first introduced during a keynote presentation by company CEO Paul Jacobs at the Consumer Electronics Show, boast significant performance upgrades over earlier models.

The Snapdragon 800, designed for premium mobile and computing devices, offers up to 75% better performance than the already established Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, according to the company. Among a bevy of other offerings, the 800 boasts Qualcomm's third-generation 4G LTE technology with data speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

The Snapdragon 600, which also targets high-end mobile devices, offers up to 40% better performance than the S4 Pro, according to Qualcomm.

Qualcomm COO and President Steve Mollenkopf went on to describe the chips in a company press release, saying, "With the overwhelming success of our previous Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms, our mobile processors have emerged as the platform of choice for high-end mobile devices ... we are advancing our vision and setting the standard for excellence in mobile computing."
