The next generation of Pokemon is well under way. This morning, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company jointly announced the next title updates for its hit series of handheld RPGs. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will both hit Nintendo's 3DS in October 2013 worldwide. Keep in mind that this is the first time for a Pokemon game to receive a simultaneous worldwide launch.

"The worldwide launch of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y this October allows players to begin their adventures at the same time," Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara said in a release. "Now, Pokémon fans across the globe can discover the secrets of Pokémon games and can collect, battle, and trade with each other immediately." %Gallery-175276%
Hot on the heels of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 on the DS, the upcoming X and Y versions put the entire world of Pokemon into 3D with battle scenes and exploration that betray the isometric perspectives of past releases. Of course, these new games also introduce a new cast of pocket monsters to capture and new lead characters.

"We brought Pokémon into an entirely new dimension and we're incredibly excited to bring Pokémon X and Pokémon Y to fans," Game Freak video game director Junichi Masuda said. "The stunning visuals, a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features will bring smiles to the faces of video game players around the world."
