CA Technologies and Sesame Workshop Partner to Encourage and Promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education
Technology Company Pledges $1 Million to Support Initiative
ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CA Technologies (NAS: CA) and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit, educational organization behind Sesame Street, today announced a partnership to encourage young children, educators and parents to engage in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning. To support this effort, CA Technologies has pledged $1,000,000 to Sesame Workshop.

Currently under development, the initiative will feature a free STEM hub that is part of the Sesamestreet.org website with educational resources for preschool children. Educators, parents, caregivers and kids will be able to access STEM videos, interactive games, hands-on lesson plans and activities that present STEM learning concepts in fun, creative and engaging ways. Short promotional videos will encourage families to make STEM learning part of their daily activities and reinforce the importance of STEM education.
"CA Technologies is proud to partner with Sesame Workshop and support the development of creative and interactive programs that engage children in STEM learning," said Andrew Wittman, chief marketing officer, CA Technologies. "Like our Sesame Workshop partners, we believe all children should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Through this initiative, we are hoping to help young people discover an interest in technology and consider educational opportunities and careers in technical fields."
There are numerous facts and statistics that indicate improved STEM education is a critical need. Students in the United States are falling behind their peers globally in this area, and increases in STEM-related job openings are becoming increasingly more difficult to fill. High-quality STEM educational experiences prepare students to enter STEM-related fields, and foster critical thinking and problem solving skills essential for academic success.
"Through early STEM education, we strive to help children develop stronger critical thinking skills and a better understanding of how things work to help prepare them for future learning," said Sherrie Rollins Westin, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Sesame Workshop. "We're grateful to CA Technologies for supporting our work on STEM education and helping us to reach more children with this valuable curriculum."
Last year, President Obama announced plans for a new, national corps to recognize and reward leading STEM educators. Significant funding from the existing Teacher Incentive Fund will be redirected to help school districts implement plans to establish career ladders that identify, develop and leverage highly effective STEM teachers.
Additionally, the administration also announced an ambitious goal of preparing 100,000 additional STEM teachers over the next decade. This program would provide competitive awards to create or expand high-quality pathways to teacher certification and other innovative approaches for recruiting, training and placing talented graduates and professionals in STEM fields in high-need schools.
With the president's leadership, over 115 organizations, led by Carnegie Corporation of New York and Opportunity Equation, came together to form 100Kin10, a STEM coalition to help reach this goal. Both CA Technologies and Sesame Workshop participate in the 100Kin10 effort and are members of the Clinton Global Initiative's STEM education and Early Childhood Development working groups.
