Huell Howser, 'Volcano House' Owner, Dies at 67
Broadcasting legend and former owner of the famous "Volcano House," Huell Howser, has died at age 67.
The host of a popular travel documentary show on public television, "California's Gold," Howser at one time inhabited the flying-saucer-shaped retreat on 60 acres in Valley Springs, Calif. The unique two-bedroom main house, featuring a dome-like roof, is perched atop a volcano cone, offering 360-degree views over Valley Springs. The one-of-a-kind property features an observation deck at the apex of the dome and a detached one-bedroom guesthouse.
The space-age home was constructed by Vard Wallace in 1968. It was listed for $750,000 in 2010 and was recently donated by Howser to Chapman University in Orange, California.
