GM Recalls 55,000 Trucks and SUVs in U.S.
General Motors  has issued a recall notice for nearly 55,000 vehicles in the U.S. Reuters puts the total global number involved at 69,000 light trucks, vans, and SUVs.
The recall relates to vehicles manufactured between Nov. 7, 2012, and Dec. 18, 2012, which may have been built with a fractured park lock cable or a malformed steering column lock actuator gear in the lock module assembly. These defects may permit a vehicle to be shifted into gear from Park even when the ignition key has been removed or turned Off. This creates the possibility that an in-gear vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle.
In the U.S., the recall affects up to 54,686 model year 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups; Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Avalanche, Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon SUVs; and Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans. GM says it will begin notifying owners of the recall on Jan. 17, and dealers will inspect vehicles for the defect, and repair it if found, free of charge.
