Microsoft Reported to Have Bought Smarthome Software Maker id8

Updated

According to multiple sources -- but not the company itself, which so far has made no mention of the news on its website or in SEC filings -- Microsoft yesterday bought start-up "smart home" software maker id8 Group R2 Studios.

Id8 was founded in 2011 by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Blake Krikorian, whose company invented the Slingbox media device that it eventually sold to EchoStar . Reports indicate that Mr. Krikorian will be joining Microsoft, as well.

No details on the value of the transaction, or on id8's sales or earnings have been disclosed at this time. Microsoft is declining to comment.
