Top 25 Facebook Games - January 2013: Clash of the Titans

The new year sees the next major rivalry in social gaming come to fruition: Zynga versus King.com. In AppData's monthly Top 25 Facebook Games by DAU (daily active users) chart, the former's FarmVille 2 and the latter's Candy Crush Saga are tied for first place, both with 8.1 million daily players. Let the biggest battle of 2013 begin?

What might be more telling about this inevitable face-off is that, to get there, FarmVille 2 lost 400,000 daily players since last month, while Candy Crush Saga gained a whopping 1.7 million daily players. But the social gaming giant seems to be fighting a war for daily players on multiple, with Social Point, Wooga and PopCap all with games in the top 10. (Though, King.com does have the most Facebook games in this measure with Bubble Witch Saga in eighth place and Pet Rescue Saga tied for 10th with Bejeweled Blitz.)

Actually, we'd venture so far as to say that, in Jan. 2013, AppData's DAU chart has a wider variety of game makers than ever before, with 12 developers aside from Zynga. That alone speaks volumes to how hard the FarmVille maker will have to fight to maintain its top position. You can bet that this war will only heat up as these developers (including Zynga) issue even more addictive and impressive social and mobile games this year. Start exercising those clicking fingers.
