Cigna Completes Acquisition of Arcadian and Humana Medicare Advantage Plans in Select Markets

Cigna's HealthSpring to Serve Seniors in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cigna (NYS: CI) announced today it has completed its acquisition of select Arcadian and Humana Medicare Advantage plans in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. In addition to the Amarillo, Longview-Marshall and Texarkana markets that were initially announced in late June, the closing acquisition also incorporates the Fort-Smith market, bringing the Medicare Advantage service area expansion to a total of 35 new counties.

Effective January 1, 2013, the approximately 4,500 impacted Humana or Arcadian customers will have access to Cigna/HealthSpring's physician engagement model that works collaboratively with doctors to provide access to high quality, coordinated care that is focused on prevention and total body wellness.

"We are pleased to have an opportunity to serve the health care needs of our new customers in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas," HealthSpring President Herb Fritch said. "I believe seniors in those areas will value our unique model and its extra benefits, proven results and personal attention."

The four acquired markets were part of a previously announced government-stipulated divestiture for Humana to complete its acquisition of Arcadian. Additional details of the transaction were not disclosed.
