The Fool Looks Ahead

Updated

There's never a dull week on Wall Street. Let's go over some of the news that will shape the week to come.

Monday
The final trading day of the year is usually uneventful, but you know the fiscal cliff will weigh heavy on which way the market sways as 2012 comes to a close.

Another thing that may bear watching is Sirius XM Radio . The satellite-radio provider had been pointing to the rollout of a personalized radio service during the second half of the year. It has yet to materialize, and Monday's the final day of 2012.

Tuesday
The market is closed in observance of New Year's Day. Now may be a good time to go over that list of resolutions and see how many you can keep before the day is over.

Wednesday
Hump Day will be the first trading day of 2013. Things should be quiet on the news front. The only significant stateside company reporting its quarterly results on Wednesday is Landec . The materials science company with two proprietary polymer technology platforms is expected to post a profit of $0.16 a share, just ahead of the $0.13 it served up a year earlier.

Thursday
Piedmont Natural Gas
reported its financial results for fiscal 2012 a week ago. However, the natural gas provider with more than a million customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee is waiting until Thursday morning to host its conference call to discuss the results.

Friday
The final trading day of the week is usually quiet, but investors may still want to check out Mosaic's latest results. The producer of concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients is expected to deliver a quarterly profit of $0.94 a share, well short of the $1.40 it rang up a year earlier.
