Honors Highlight Industry's Most Innovative Security Deployments

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Verint® Systems Inc. (NAS: VRNT) today announced that together with its customer The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the organizations have been selected as the silver medal recipient for the "2012 Security Innovation Award" from Security Technology Executive magazine.

Those nominated for the Eighth Annual Security Innovation Awards, which recognizethe mostinnovative useof technology andservices in the securityindustry, were selected by the media outlet and a panel of industry experts. Verint and the WMATA's case study submission showcased the authority's innovative approach to enhancing technology across its expansive transportation network. Leveraging Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funds that were awarded earlier this year, the authority began a phased approach to upgrading its security platform, including a system-wide deployment of Verint's Nextiva® Video Management Software (VMS).

Connecting the District of Columbia, the state of Maryland and the commonwealth of Virginia, The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority serves as a tri-jurisdictional government agency. It provides rapid transit service under the Metrorail brand, fixed-route bus service under the Metrobus brand and paratransit service under the MetroAccess brand. Metrorail serves a population of 3.4 million within a 1,500-square mile jurisdiction with its 86 stations and more than 100 miles of track.

To help monitor its vast transportation network with dispersed operations, the authority uses Verint's Nextiva Video Management Software, which today helps WMATA rapidly detect, investigate and act on security-related issues and potential threats. The comprehensive VMS solution promotes more manageable and effective video operations with its automated system health monitoring and diagnostics, live and recorded video viewing, policy-based video distribution, efficient virtual matrix switching and versatile investigation management capabilities. Nextiva integrates its security functionality into a single, configurable user interface for optimal ease-of-use and operator efficiency.

"Verint is pleased to be a part of these distinguished honors, to showcase our technology partnership with The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and to be a part of its forward-thinking approach to security operations," says Steve Weller, senior vice president and general manager, Verint Video and Situation Intelligence Solutions. "Receiving recognition from the industry for work we engage in with our customers is the ultimate honor."
