GM Recalls 118,800 Pickups in U.S. for Possible Missing Hood Latch

Updated

General Motors is recalling 118,800 model year 2010-2012 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks in the U.S. manufactured between Nov. 9, 2009, and Aug. 28, 2012. An Associated Press report puts the international number in the recall at more than 145,000.

According to the government's safercar.gov website, some or all of these vehicles may be missing a required secondary hood latch. This creates a risk that, if the primary hood latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly, potentially blocking the driver's view when the vehicle is in operation, and causing a crash.

GM intends to begin mailing out notifications of the recall to truck owners on Jan. 17. As part of the recall, GM service providers will inspect the vehicles for presence of the secondary latch and, if not present, will install a new one free of charge.
