New Online Service in Delaware Promotes Car Seat Safety

DOVER, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) and Delaware.gov recently launched a Car Seat Data Collection Application to assist OHS with its internal database administration of car seat check data. Statistically, three out of four child car seats are used incorrectly. OHS strives to reduce this statistic by providing Delaware citizens with free car seat inspections, as well as training on proper installation of that specific car seat. Citizens are able to visit an inspection location to receive this free service at several convenient locations across the state. You can learn more about OHS car seat checks by visiting http://ohs.delaware.gov/carseat.

The Car Seat Data Collection application allows OHS staff to collect data from car seat checks conducted state-wide via a browser-based application. This data is used to provide OHS with the ability to run reports and generate valuable statistics. "OHS is committed to providing free car seat checks for Delaware families to protect their youngest passengers. This database will allow us to more easily capture the data collected at the car seat checks to further improve our services to Delaware families," said Jana Simpler, Director of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. The application was developed with a 'mobile-first' approach in order to optimize viewing on cell phones and tablet devices.

"We're committed to creating new and convenient eGovernment tools for Delaware," said Greg Hughes, Director of the Delaware Government Information Center (GIC), which leads eGovernment efforts in the First State. "Delaware Governor Jack Markell has directed us to look for ways to make government more efficient, effective and open; mobile apps and eGovernment tools like this one will help us meet that goal."
