Honda Recalls 807,000 Minivans and SUVs
Honda Motor Co. on Wednesday issued a recall of approximately 318,000 Honda Odyssey minivans and 259,000 Honda Pilot SUVs from the 2003-2004 model years. Additionally, Honda recalled approximately 230,000 Acura MDX SUVs from the 2003-2006 model years.
In a press release, Honda cited a potential malfunction of the ignition interlock feature on these three vehicles, in which repeated use of the ignition wears out the mechanism and it may become possible to remove the key when the automatic transmission shift lever is not in park. Honda said it has received several complaints about such malfunctions and that there have been "a small number of incidents, including two that allegedly resulted in minor injuries." After explaining the possible key malfunction, Honda notes that if the transmission is not in park and the parking brake has not been engaged, the vehicle could roll away.
Honda intends to mail out notifications of the recall in early February.
