BETHEL, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Duracell is bringing holiday cheer to families by partnering with Toys for Tots and committing to powering up to 500,000 smiles through its Power Holiday Smiles program. "For any child, there is nothing more disappointing than opening up a toy and finding that there are no batteries to power it," said Volker Kuhn, general manager for Duracell North America. "We're proud to play a crucial role in those special gift giving moments for families in need, while giving consumers the chance to access the most popular toys and gifts."
The Power Holiday Smiles Facebook sweepstakes, which starts on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22 and runs through Dec. 20, will feature a giveaway for every hour of the day. Hundreds of toys and gifts such as FURBY from Hasbro® Inc.; LeapFrog Tag Junior Reading System and Microsoft's Xbox 360®250GB Holiday Bundle will be accessible for consumers to win.
To help kick-off the program, Duracell also partnered with ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" star and singer, Lucy Hale, who spent a day yesterday with Duracell in New York City and surprised kids with holiday cheer and Hasbro battery-operated gifts at P.S. 64, an elementary school located in a low-income community in the Lower East Side that recently recovered from loss of power and heat as a result of Hurricane Sandy. "The holiday season is such an important time to help those less fortunate. I'm excited to support Duracell's campaign to power as many smiles as possible through this initiative to give back to kids in need," said Hale.
"Toys for Tots is excited to partner with Duracell to help power our toys because we know that the small act of receiving a toy for a child is a magical and important experience," said Bill Grein, Vice President of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. "That's why having a toy that's ready to go with batteries you can trust like Duracell can be so crucial in helping ensure a child's holiday joy."
The program launch is also marked with a new national TV and broadband spot featuring Hasbro and Toys for Tots. Duracell and Hasbro have come together to donate thousands of Hasbro toys, including favorites from the popular FURBY, FURREAL FRIENDS and PLAYSKOOL brands, all powered by Duracell batteries to Toys for Tots.
