Alcoa Scores at Top of Corporate Equality Index for Fourth Consecutive Year

Only Mining and Metals Company in Top Ranking

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Alcoa (NYS: AA) announced today that it is the only mining and metals company to achieve a top ranking in the 2013 Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality. This is the fourth year in a row Alcoa has received the top score of 100 from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, which evaluates U.S. workplaces on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. The HRC Foundation is the educational arm of the largest U.S. civil rights organization.


A total of 889 businesses have been rated in the 2013 Corporate Equality Index, including the entire Fortune 500. This year, 252 companies received a 100 percent score, indicating fully inclusive equal employment opportunity policies, equal employment benefits, organizational LGBT competency, a commitment to equality publicly and responsible citizenship.

The Corporate Equality Index has become the foremost benchmark for businesses to gauge their level of LGBT workplace inclusion against competitors, rating companies on 40 policies and practices that affect LGBT workers.
