Northeast Utilities (NYS: NU) reported earnings on Nov. 7. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at $0.70. The 12 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.68 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.66 for Q3 were 29% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.51 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 44.0%, 660 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 24.5%, 460 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 11.2%, 310 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.89 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.63.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $6.90 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.30.
