YPF Misses Where it Counts
YPF (NYS: YPF) reported earnings on Nov. 7. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Sep. 30 (Q3), YPF met expectations on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew slightly and GAAP earnings per share dropped significantly.
Margins shrank across the board.
YPF chalked up revenue of $3.70 billion. The one analyst polled by S&P Capital IQ foresaw sales of $3.73 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 1.8% higher than the prior-year quarter's $3.64 billion.

EPS came in at $0.40. The one earnings estimate compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.57 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.41 for Q3 were 61% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.06 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 21.7%, 690 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 10.3%, 720 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 4.4%, 710 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $3.81 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.53.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $14.13 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.73.
The stock has a three-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 183 members out of 206 rating the stock outperform, and 23 members rating it underperform. Among 50 CAPS All-Star picks (recommendations by the highest-ranked CAPS members), 43 give YPF a green thumbs-up, and seven give it a red thumbs-down.
Of Wall Street recommendations tracked by S&P Capital IQ, the average opinion on YPF is hold, with an average price target of $16.59.
