October's employment report released earlier this month showed continued steady improvement in the job market. But hiring remains sluggish; a number of employers posted fewer job openings in September after advertising more in August than first estimated. As the Labor Department reported Tuesday, job openings fell by 100,000 to 3.56 million, the lowest in five months, suggesting that hiring will likely remain modest in coming months.
