The Napa theatre will earn points toward a Gold LEED certification under the categories of Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality.
In addition to various sustainable practices during construction, LEED highlights of the new building include highly efficient lighting and HVAC systems which perform 35% better than California's Title 24-2008 require; LED interior, parking lot and security lighting; an indirect evaporative cooling system delivering conditioned outside air for comfortable indoor air quality; a 100 kW photovoltaic system providing onsite renewable energy, thereby reducing dependence on the electric grid; rainwater harvesting which reduces dependence on city water systems; and green cleaning practices including recycling of cardboard and plastics will be employed.
A unique, additional touch to the Century Napa Valley and XD Theatre is the display of new public art by renowned Napa resident Gordon Huether. Five back-lit panels of movie related images will adorn the back side of the building, providing the Napa community the opportunity to celebrate the visual art of moving pictures through Huether's static images.
