Amazon Takes Aim at Netflix With Prime Pricing Change

Updated

Amazon.com (NAS: AMZN) is now offering Prime, its premium shipping service that also bundles unlimited streaming, for $7.99 a month. A reader at the news site Hacking Netflix first reported the find yesterday:

With the change, what had been a $79-per-year membership is now being sold at the same price Netflix (NAS: NFLX) charges for its streaming service here in the U.S. Hulu Plus, the premium streaming service cooperatively operated by Comcast (NAS: CMCSA) , News Corp. (NAS: NWS) , and Walt Disney (NYS: DIS) , also charges $7.99 monthly .

Paying $7.99 a month for a year would cost $95.88. TechCrunch reports that it appears those who pay $79 annually for Prime now, or new members who wish to sign up for a year's subscription and save $16.88, may continue to do so.
