Whom Will the iPad Mini Hurt the Most?

Updated

Most investors, including Fool contributor Evan Niu, are stacking up Apple's (NAS: AAPL) new iPad Mini against the two leading 7-inch tablet competitors -- Amazon.com's (NAS: AMZN) Kindle Fire HD and Google's (NAS: GOOG) Nexus 7, both of which start at $199. These two tablets certainly may stand to lose some sales to the iPad Mini, but Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu believes Microsoft (NAS: MSFT) Windows 8 devices may be the main rivals. Wu maintains that since the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 are much cheaper, they're in a different device category, while the iPad Mini's pricing puts it right up against Windows 8 PCs and tablets.

It's been a frustrating path for Microsoft investors, who've watched the company fail to capitalize on the incredible growth in mobile over the past decade. However, with the release of its own tablet, along with the widely anticipated Windows 8 operating system, the company is looking to make a splash in this booming market. In this brand-new premium report on Microsoft, our analyst explains that while the opportunity is huge, the challenges are many.
