Pan American Bank, Former Assistant Secretary of Education, California Superintendent of Public Instruction, and LAUSD Board President Join Forces to Benefit Nonprofit

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- On Friday, November 2, 2012, Pan American Bank hosted a Dia De Los Muertos-themed Casino Night Fundraiser for the benefit of the Eastmont Community Center. Pan American Bank was joined in the effort by former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education Thelma de Santa Ana Melendez, California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, and Los Angeles Unified School District Board President Monica Garcia. During the evening the Eastmont Community Center Board of Directors presented the former Assistant Secretary with the Inspiration Award for her tireless work in K-12 education.

"It was great to see over 300 Eastmont supporters come out and help raise funds for this organization. The Eastmont Community Center, founded in 1967, provides needed education, social services, and health and wellness services that promote personal development and self-sufficiency. Eastmont Community Center provides emergency services such as food and clothing, housing, and job search counseling. Eastmont Community Center also offers child development services, educational programs for youth, English as a second language, citizenship classes, adult literacy programs, and senior services which include hot meals and low-impact exercise activity.
