American Express Refunds Merchant Discount Rate for Charitable Contributions for Hurricane Sandy Relief

Company Also Contributes $1,000,000

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, American Express (NYS: AXP) today announced that it will rebate the merchant discount rate for charitable contributions for Hurricane relief that Cardmembers make directly to these non-profit organizations using their American Express Cards:


The rebate is effective retroactively from Monday, October 29 through December 31, 2012.

Cardmembers can also use their Membership Rewards® points for charitable contributions to these organizations as well as others.

In addition, American Express will donate $1,000,000 to the American Red Cross and other organizations involved in Hurricane relief efforts.
