Mindspeed Processors Power Live Small Cell Demonstrations at 4G World and ARM TechCon

Company's Transcede Family of System-on-Chip (SoC) Solutions Highlighted by Aricent and ARM at Major Industry Events

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NAS: MSPD) , a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that Aricent Inc. showcased LTE small cell solutions featuring Mindspeed®'s Transcede® processor at 4G World this week at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL; and that ARMLtd. demonstrated Mindspeed's latest LTE small cell SoC at the ARM TechCon™ conference at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.

Aricent's 4G World demo highlighted a jointly-developed LTE eNodeB reference framework. The carrier-class product is a complete solution design, from RF interface through S1 and X2 interfaces and includes Aricent base station software stacks integrated with Mindspeed baseband and silicon. Rigorously tested for functionality and performance, the base station solution is designed to help telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) deliver high-performance base stations in multiple form factors, including femto, pico, metro and micro-cell configurations and is available for both LTE FDD and TD-LTE variants.

The ARM TechCon demo featured Mindspeed's Transcede 4000 processor and showcased a complete, full performance LTE home eNodeB reference system utilizing carrier-class software from both Mindspeed and Radisys Corporation, with the system's protocol stack running on the ARM® Cortex™-A9 quad-core processor.

Mindspeed was one of ARM's first licensees and now includes ARM processors in several different product lines, from communications processors, such as the new Comcerto® 2000, to small cell baseband SoCs. Within these, the Mindspeed portfolio supports all the major air-interfaces (GSM, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, LTE FDD and TD-LTE), and scales from cost-effective residential femtocells to high-performance metro-cells. Mindspeed's PC202 residential femtocell SoC is used in the world's largest small cell deployment, while the Transcede 3300 product, announced earlier this year, is the first system-on-chip (SoC) designed for dual-mode (HSPA+LTE) operation.

"Mindspeed has developed its industry-leading small cell portfolio using ARM technology and can attest to the benefits of the ARM core for cellular infrastructure," said Rupert Baines, vice president, corporate strategy and marketing communication, at Mindspeed. "Just this week Informa announced that the number of small cells has overtaken the number of traditional base stations, meaning that the vast majority of new base stations are powered by ARM processors."
