Longtime TECO Leader Clinton E. Childress to Retire Dec. 31
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Clinton E. Childress, who started working for Tampa Electric as a laborer and progressed to become a senior officer of TECO Energy (NYS: TE) , announced today he will retire on Dec. 31 after more than four decades of service to the company.

Childress, senior vice president of Corporate Services and the company's chief human resources officer, has been instrumental in shaping TECO's corporate values. He is known for his die-hard commitment to continuing education and leadership development.

Childress' duties will be split between two vice presidents:
Phil Barringer will become vice president of Corporate Services and chief human resources officer. In addition to his regular duties, he will be responsible for the purchasing, contract services, facilities, real estate, corporate safety, security and emergency management functions.
Dee Brown will become vice president of Business Strategy, Technology and Compliance and will continue to be the company's chief ethics and compliance officer. In addition to her regular duties, she will be responsible for the information technology and telecommunications functions.
Childress began his career with Tampa Electric Co. in 1970 digging ditches as a laborer and advanced to a lineman in Energy Delivery operations. Through the years, Childress served in various leadership positions, including director of Labor Relations and director of Compensation and Benefits. Childress has a bachelor's degree in professional management from The University of Tampa.

Childress has been active in the United Way board of directors, Hillsborough County Workforce Development Board, the Hillsborough County WAGES (Work to Gain Economic Self-Sufficiency) Coalition, the Edison Electric Institute, and the American Heart Association board, among other charitable organizations. He served three years in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam veteran. Childress and his wife, Terri, have two adult sons.
TECO Energy Inc. (NYS: TE) is an energy-related holding company. Its principal subsidiary, Tampa Electric Company, is a regulated utility in Florida with both electric and gas divisions (Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas System). Its other major subsidiary, TECO Coal, owns and operates coal production facilities in Kentucky and Virginia.
