As many as 10 EA social games axed or delayed in shift toward mobile

It looks like veteran games publisher EA hasn't seen the wild success it would like on Facebook. Sure, The Sims Social has proved lucrative for the company. But its few other Facebook games--SimCity Social, Outernauts and JetSet Secrets (though, don't count this one out just yet)--have not. That said, EA isn't very interested in games on Facebook anymore, so it's moving on. And Inside Social Games reports that it will take as many as 10 social games in development with it.

During a recent earnings call, an analyst brought up the lack of social games in the publisher's 2013 calendar, to which CEO John Riccitiello responded with confirmation that a number of social games in the works have been cancelled. Of course, he refrained from saying exactly which games were unfortunately let go or delayed. But there's an important distinction to be made here: Remember when we said "EA isn't very interested in games on Facebook anymore?"

That much seems to be true. But EA has no intention of abandoning the power of Facebook as it heads toward mobile. Games like The Simpsons: Tapped Out and PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz use Facebook Connect extensively, and that isn't likely to change anytime soon. It just might be safe to not expect the next big game on Facebook to come from EA.
