Verizon to Sell New Nokia Lumia Phone
Nokia(NYSE: NOK) announced today that mobile carrier Verizon(NYSE: VZ) will carry the company's new Lumia 822 phone this fall.
The Lumia 822 runs on Windows Phone 8 software and will be exclusive to Verizon. The phone boasts an 8-megapixel camera, wireless charging, and a number of user-specific features such as navigation software Nokia Drive+ and music streaming service Nokia Music.
Rival carrier AT&T (NYSE: T) will carry similar high-end models from Nokia, the Lumia 820 and 920 phones, starting in November.
Nokia is planning on using the Lumia line to catch up with higher-flying rivals in Apple(NASDAQ: AAPL) and Samsung. Nokia's Q3 2012 market share for worldwide smartphones was only 4%, whereas Apple and Samsung posted shares of 26.9% and 56.9%, respectively.
