DeVry Congratulates the CPS Alumni in the Class of 2012 for Launching Careers and Enhancing Our Workforce

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- High school graduates from the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) are proving to be successful as college graduates, especially those who pursued career-focused degrees. With the nation facing a serious shortage of skilled workers, job opportunities exist even in these difficult economic times, especially in high-demand fields such as: accounting, healthcare and technology. Leading companies are stepping up to hire graduates in those fields.

Of particular note are the 300 CPS alumni in the DeVry University 2012 graduating class who have been hired by industry-leading companies and organizations across the Chicagoland area. These students have joined the workforce at dozens of area companies, including Abbott Laboratories, AT&T, Bank of America and Blue Cross Blue Shield to name just a few.

"As a CPS alumnus, I want to congratulate the former CPS students in this graduating class. And I want to thank the teachers and administrators of the Chicago Public Schools for their dedication in educating and preparing these students for their future success," said Sharon Thomas Parrott, senior vice president of external relations and global responsibility and chief regulatory compliance officer for DeVry, the parent organization of DeVry University.

The DeVry University graduates came from 67 Chicago public high schools across the city including Amundsen High School, Benito Juarez Community Academy, Fenger Academy, Harlan Community Academy, Lane Technical High School, Lincoln Park High School, Orr Academy, Prosser Career Academy and Whitney Young Magnet, among others.

"Founded in Chicago in 1931, DeVry University has always had a special relationship with CPS students, and we've been honored to help thousands of CPS alumni further their education and launch their careers," said David J. Pauldine, president of DeVry University. "From the impressive list of companies that hire them, we know that students that graduate from CPS and DeVry University represent an important segment of our region's workforce."

With an 80+-year history and more than 250,000 alumni nationwide since 1975, DeVry University has helped thousands of graduates launch or change careers. Many of DeVry's students are non-traditional, including working adults, immigrants and those who are the first in their family to pursue a college degree. DeVry University's curriculum is career oriented, and the school offers personalized career services to help students launch their careers after graduation.
