Higher One Named to Best Medium Workplaces List for a Second Year in a Row

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Higher One, a leader in providing financial services and data analytics to over 1,250 college and university campuses across the U.S., announces that it has been named as one of the best medium workplaces in the United States by Great Place to Work® in their annual 2012 Best Small & Medium Workplaces list, published today by FORTUNE magazine. Ranked #25, the list recognizes companies that have exceptional workplace cultures. Now in its ninth year, the competition is divided into two categories, Small (50-250 employees) and Medium (251-999 employees).

Higher One was selected among hundreds of companies vying for a place on the list this year. Applicant companies opt to participate in the selection process, which includes an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about the company's programs and practices. Great Place to Work® then evaluates each application using its unique methodology based on five dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie. Organizations named on the list see many benefits that include better financial performance, less employee turnover, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty, more innovative and creative thinking, higher productivity, and enhanced public perception.

"Our culture at Higher One is built around mutual trust and empowerment in our employees," said Miles Lasater, COO and Co-Founder of Higher One. "Our commitment to applying these values, encouraging our employees to feel comfortable sharing their opinions, and creating a fun place to work allow us to achieve the honor of 'great place to work' year upon year."

Among the factors that contribute to Higher One employee satisfaction are wellness programs, including a fitness center and free healthy lunch provided in Higher One's on-site cafés, as well as the company's unique work approach. Called "Living Focus," this new way of working eliminates the mindset of set office hours—employees work when and where they are most effective and the focus remains on meeting individual and departmental goals as well as customer expectations. Employees are able to choose the work style that suits their lifestyle, empowering them with flexibility and boosting their productivity and focus on what matters.
