Feds Investigate Jeep Patriot Stalling Problem

Updated

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating reports of Chrysler Jeep Patriots stalling at high speeds.

The Office of Defects Investigation has received 12 complaints alleging engine stall in model year 2011-2012 Jeep Patriot vehicles, according to information on the safecar.gov website. Ten of the incidents occurred while the vehicle was traveling at least 65 mph, and one complaint alleged the incident resulted in a crash and injury. All those who complained say their vehicle could not be immediately restarted, and eight couldn't get theirs restarted at all.

"The complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with all but three received within the past six months," according to an NHTSA document. A preliminary evaluation is under way.
