ASCC: Vodka is More Than Recession-Proof

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To build its new brand management division, Aristocrat Brands, the Aristocrat Group Corp. (OTCBB: ASCC) is focusing on a popular product that's proven to be more than recession-proof industry.

Vodka is America's top-selling spirit, accounting for nearly a third of the liquor market and half of its growth. Even better, demand for the white spirit has continued to grow despite a years-long economic downturn in the U.S. Vodka sales here grew by 13.9 million cases between 2004 and 2009 to reach 58.4 million, according to a report last year by just-drinks and IWSR.

"The U.S. is the primary market for premium vodkas despite the less-than-ideal economic circumstances," said ASCC CEO Cindy Morrissey. "We believe that vodka is an inherently profitable category for our brand because it's a product that can be made and sold quickly, and there are very low barriers to entry in the industry.

"Even a very small company can grow very large and very rich in this space with a quality product, which is very good news for our shareholders," she said.

Aristocrat Brands' initial focus will be on premium vodkas, a large market in the U.S. America accounts for as much as 86 percent of the global super-premium-and-above vodka market, according to just-drinks and IWSR. That represents a volume of 15.7 million cases.

Thanks to such favorable conditions, ASCC views vodka as key to growing its brand management business in order to compete in a highly profitable sector alongside Limited Brands, Inc. (LTD), Proctor & Gamble (PG), New York & Company, Inc. (NWY) and Chico's FAS, Inc. (CHS).
