"Global supply chain complexity has become the new norm," said Fernandez. "Rather than exercising expensive attempts to reduce the complexity, many organizations are accepting the fact that the opportunity resides on capitalizing on complexity rather than attempting to reduce it. The Supply Chain World Europe conference provides an opportunity to discuss the complexities that exist within global supply chains and share some best practices I've learned from more than 25 years of experience managing supply chain costs. We will also review how collaborating with partners can improve shared processes."
Fernandez's session is titled "Capitalizing on Complexity: Reducing Multi-Tier Supply Chain Risk." His presentation will examine the complexity that exists in the supply chain ecosystem and focus on three techniques:
- Fully understanding the true cost to serve customers across the entire supply chain in order to make tough decisions regarding suppliers, products, customers and channels;
- Extending the S&OP process through multiple tiers of business partners to ensure critical information transparency is provided and feedback loops are solid; and,
- Building a multi-echelon control tower approach in order to not only command and control the supply chain - but also provide predictability by sensing and responding to how the market conditions change.
Supply Chain World Europe is a Supply Chain Council event with a different theme each year to address the changing climate and market trends. This year's event highlights the need for employees, processes, technology, functions, and even supplier network partners to be fully aligned and synchronized in order to build capability and thereby gain a sustainable competitive advantage.
Fernandez is the vice president of Avnet Velocity, EMEA, a global supply chain solutions division of Avnet. He is responsible for business development, as well as implementing and managing supply chain solutions for Avnet Inc.'s partners in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Having started his career in electronics engineering, Fernandez has held multiple positions in sales and marketing management within the electronics industry and has implemented numerous successful global supply chain and logistics programs. Based in Paris, he is also vice president of the SPDEI, the French Electronics Distribution Trade Association. Prior to joining Avnet, he was director of sales and marketing at SCAIB.
