PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This year, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 60th year as head of the Commonwealth, but she's not the only institution celebrating a diamond anniversary. In 1952, Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), one of the world's largest distributors of electronics components and embedded systems, inked a distribution agreement with ITT Corporation's (NYS: ITT) Interconnect Solutions business, which then operated under the name of its flagship Cannon brand.

The same year Avnet and ITT signed their distribution agreement ITT engineers introduced the world to the D-sub connector, the industry's first multi-purpose connector.
