State of Tennessee Selects Healthways to Provide Comprehensive Population Health Management Program

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthways (Nasdaq: HWAY) today announced a new contract with the State of Tennessee to improve the health of all members of the State of Tennessee Group Insurance Program (the "Program") and their eligible dependent family members. The Program's members are made up of state government employees and local government and education employees, who, with their eligible dependent family members, total approximately 277,000 individuals. This agreement, which will create an estimated 100 new, high quality Tennessee jobs, represents the state's continued commitment to fostering the healthy living of the Program's members and increasing their access to the best evidence-based health care and health technology. Healthways, which is headquartered in Franklin, TN, will expand its existing local operations and begin offering new services under the agreement on January 1, 2013.

The five-year agreement calls for Healthways to manage the State of Tennessee's innovative Partners for Health population health and wellness program. The Company was chosen after a lengthy competitive selection process and will implement an integrated set of services collectively known as Healthways Well-Being Improvement Solution. These services include Healthways Well-Being Assessments™, health coaching, biometrics, onsite coaching, wellness challenges and disease management for diabetes, heart failure, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma.

"Sustainably improving well-being is the principle strategy for building the long-term growth and vitality of our communities," said Ben R. Leedle, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Healthways. "For our state to be competitive and to thrive, we must increase well-being in Tennessee. Low well-being results in decreased productivity and increased healthcare costs, a growing burden that simply cannot be afforded. We applaud Governor Bill Haslam and the Department of Finance and Administration for taking the lead to ensure the Partners for Health program affords every Program member and eligible dependent family member access to proven well-being improvement tools and experts. We look forward to supporting the State of Tennessee in further building and sustaining a workplace culture of health and well-being. Through Healthways' participation in this program to improve Tennessee's well-being, we can help state employees lead healthier, more productive lives and reduce healthcare costs, while further enhancing the state's reputation for healthcare innovation and leadership."
