Pitney Bowes Introduces New Technology for High-Volume Production Printing and Mailing Solutions

Enhancements Can Help Customers Increase Operational Savings While Producing High-Quality, Color Communications

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYS: PBI) today announced new technology enhancements and capabilities to its high-volume production printing and mailing solutions to help customers increase operational savings while producing high-quality, color communications. The new updates include: an in-line envelope converting module for the Mailstream Wrapper Productivity Series; a Print+ Direct Mail™ color inkjet system; an enhanced client job tracking capability for DFWorks® Software; and Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS) compatibility for the IntelliJet 20® Printing System. Pitney Bowes will feature these solutions at Graph Expo 2012 in Chicago (booth #1238).

"Pitney Bowes is continuing to invest in new technology and capabilities to help our customers more effectively connect with their customers," said Christoph Stehmann, president, Pitney Bowes Document Messaging Technologies. "These new enhancements can help high-volume production printers and mailers produce faster, smarter customer communications while reducing operational costs."

New Hardware Solutions and Enhancements

Pitney Bowes's new in-line envelope converting module for the Mailstream Wrapper™ Productivity Series inserting system can help high-volume transactional mailers and service bureaus produce high-quality, window envelopes.

The module uses continuous rolls of paper to produce high-quality wrap material in-line during the mail finishing process. This unique technology allows mailers to cost-effectively produce wrap material with a scalloped flap and window patch, resulting in a finished mailpiece with the appearance of a traditional business envelope.

Integrated seamlessly with the Mailstream Wrapper, the module transforms mail finishing into a continuous workflow to produce variable page transactional and direct mail customer communications.

This solution features precision inline flap profiling, window cut-out and patching for processing white paper or pre-printed rolls. The servo-driven cutting system simplifies changes between window sizes and locations while helping to ensure accurate registration to the printed web. Utilizing recyclable glassine, window patches are applied, creating a solid seal and flat patch. By incorporating the module with the Mailstream Wrapper, organizations can reduce the costs of pre-manufactured envelopes and time associated with material handling and logistics.

Pitney Bowes is also introducing the new Print+ Direct Mail™ Color Inkjet System, which offers marketing service providers the ability to add greater value to their client communications. Designed specifically to meet the needs of direct mailers and commercial printers, the system can print high quality, full color, 100% variable data messaging and graphics to drive increased response. This flexible and cost-effective solution can be configured for both in-line and offline printing and supports a wide range of material substrates and inks.

New Software Enhancements

Pitney Bowes's new DFWorks® Client Job Tracking module provides comprehensive tracking and reporting solutions for production print and mail operations with highly efficient, but complex, customer communications workflows.

With the new software module, service bureaus and large enterprises can now accurately and efficiently report on the status and results of individual jobs when they are combined with other jobs in a White Paper Factory™ environment and delivered through multiple physical and digital communications channels.

In addition, organizations can take advantage of opportunities to streamline their operations and lower overall costs through a highly efficient, integrated print-and-mail environment. This enables organizations to commingle jobs prior to printing, resulting in larger and more efficient job runs, which can significantly drive better resource utilization and postage optimization.

New Capabilities

High-volume transactional mailers and service bureaus can also now print Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS) compatible jobs on the IntelliJet 20® Printing System. This expanded application reach will allow organizations that have invested in IPDS to benefit from the high-quality and productivity of the IntelliJet 20® Printing System to produce high-value, personalized color communications.

Pitney Bowes is collaborating with MPI Tech, a leading member of the AFP Consortium, on this new capability for the IntelliJet 20® Printing System. Through this collaboration, the two companies will leverage a customized IS/3 complaint version of MPI Tech's MIPS (MPI IPDS Portable Software) to manage IPDS data streams.

This enhancement illustrates Pitney Bowes's continuing investment in its IntelliJet® family of printing systems to help meet the needs of high-volume transactional mailers around the world. Recently, Pitney Bowes announced a software enhancement to the IntelliJet Print Process Manager 3.1 that enables higher performance processing of critical print applications including extended and scalable high resolution PDF document workflows to help operations easily scale processing power to meet their evolving printing needs.

This latest software development also follows the recent introduction of new printhead technology and color inks on the high speed IntelliJet 20® Printing System, enabling full-color processing at up to 400 feet-per-minute.
