Avon Hires a Turnaround Expert

In the consumer-goods space, the buzz around Avon this week has centered on the departure of former CEO Andrea Jung as chairman. She will be replaced by Fred Hassan, a well-known turnaround specialist. He's famous for his role as CEO at Schering-Plough, which Merck acquired three years after Hassan took the helm. Avon shares ended the day up 7% on the news, and investors appear optimistic that Hassan will be able to replicate his Schering-Plough successes at Avon.
