With pilots calling in sick, flight cancellations, contract talks at a standstill, mergers and consolidations galore -- and not to mention current stock prices -- airlines remain one of the most unpredictable and ill-advised industries today for investors. Even just for frequent fliers, American Airlines(NASDAQOTH: AAMRQ.PK) has been one to stay away from as of late, with seats coming loose on flights three times over the past few weeks. Another AMR flight recently required an unscheduled landing due to a smoky odor in the cabin.
