Sand Springs Police Department Deploys e-Citation Solution from Intermec and Saltus Technologies for Improved Safety, Increased Revenue
Intermec CN50's Swift Scanning Capabilities Has Helped SSPD Reduce Traffic Accidents by 67 Percent due to Decreased Time to Issue Citations
EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Intermec, Inc. (NYS: IN) today announced that the Sand Springs Police Department, located in the suburbs of Tulsa, Oklahoma with 32 sworn officers and 42 police vehicles, has deployed a new e-Citation solution featuring the Intermec CN50 mobile computer and digiTICKET software from Tulsa-based Saltus Technologies. The solution replaces SSPD's carbon paper-based process for improved efficiency and officer safety.
Under the new system, officers scan the 2D barcode on the back of a driver's license using the CN50 scanner and can quickly complete tickets by printing with mobile thermal printers. The CN50 also allows the digiTICKET software to capture an electronic signature, photograph, GPS coordinates of the stop and even voice-directed notes by the officer. At the end of a shift, officers upload citation information directly into the digiTICKET web application.
"Since deploying, we've already seen increased citation revenue by nearly 65 percent and have reduced administrative expenses by $8,500 annually," said Mike Carter, SSPD Assistant Police Chief. "But perhaps most importantly, we've seen a 67 percent reduction in traffic accidents and a 50 percent reduction in time to issue citations, which means both our officers and residents are safer as a result."
Additionally, because of the associated increased productivity, reduction in errors and better automated ticketing processes, Carter notes the department has virtually eliminated all manual data entry and paperwork associated with issuing a citation and getting it loaded into the court system. As a result, they expect a five-year return on investment of close to $500,000.
"The Intermec CN50, with its strong scanning capabilities and rugged performance for top in-field operations, is part of Intermec's strong overall portfolio of mobile computers and mobile printers to meet the growing demands of police departments across the globe," said Dan Bodnar, Intermec Director of Product Management. "Sand Springs Police Department's e-Citation solution puts them in a great position to streamline their efficiency and increase safety for operations now and in the future."
