XYLEM INC. PUBLISHES FIRST SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

Xylem Inc. (NYS: XYL) , a leading global water technology company focused on addressing the world's most challenging water issues, today announced the release of its first sustainability report as a standalone company. The report, entitled "A Drop is Everything" and viewable online at http://www.xyleminc.com/en-us/sustainability/Pages/2012-Sustainability-report.aspx, details Xylem's accomplishments in the area of sustainability for its worldwide operations in the past year, and follows Xylem's inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index on September 13, 2012.

"Our first sustainability report, after recently being named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, further validates the work we do every day to advance sustainable business practices and report our progress transparently over time," said Gretchen McClain, Xylem's president and chief executive officer. "This report provides numerous examples of what we've done in our first year to become a safer, cleaner, more caring and more responsible company."

The title of Xylem's 2011-2012 Sustainability Report, "A Drop is Everything," reflects the vital place of water in the world and Xylem's central role in finding better ways to transport, treat and test this essential resource. Highlights of the report include Xylem's commitment to use more sustainability measurements to assess and select our supplier partners, as well as the fact that Xylem has set a goal to pursue LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) certification on all new construction at Xylem.

"Earlier this year we formed a Sustainability Steering Committee with employees from all geographies, businesses and functions which meets regularly to guide our sustainability efforts and ensure we maintain momentum," said Xylem's chief sustainability officer, and president of the company's Analytics business Chris McIntire. "The work and initiatives described in this report clearly demonstrate that the efforts of the Committee are having an impact on our company. We are committed to continuing to improve our performance in this area."

The report offers a baseline snapshot of Xylem in its first year as a standalone company. Where possible, metrics shed light on the company's sustainability performance, and in other areas Xylem sets sustainability goals and features best practices from the company's individual businesses and sites.
