Orange County U.S. Green Building Council Unveils Green Classroom Project
Davis Magnet School in Costa Mesa Project in Operation
TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The USGBC Orange County chapter is planning to unveil one of the leading pilot projects for green schools in southern California on September 29, 2012.
The unveiling of the USGBC-OC Davis Magnet School"Greenovation Project" will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 1050 Arlington Drive in Costa Mesa, California.Attendees will have the opportunity to explore rooms 7 and 8 and see the benefits that a green school renovation can have on an existing classroom.
The goal is to create a blueprint for all schools to improve their learning environments and grow their environmental curriculum. The event is free for all attendees.This first annual Green Apple Day of Service is a day in which parents, teachers, students and advocates from around the world will work to make our schools healthier, more sustainable places to learn.To register visit:http://service.mygreenapple.org/page/event/detail/educate/wrvr
This is a publicly funded school, and this particular program is entirely supported and subsidized with in kind donations, monetary donations, and volunteer time by USGBC Orange County members.A Sponsor Celebration Event will be held at the school on October 11, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Additional events include the 3rdAnnual Inland Empire Green Building + Business Expo "From Red to Green:Finding Your Profit in the Green Economy" to be held October 24 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Waxie Sanitary Supply, 905 Wineville Avenue in Ontario, California.More than 300 attendees and over 30 exhibitors are expected at this event.The program will include the UCR Center for Environmental Research & Technology (CCERT) and highlights will include the SCE solar Initiative and Electric Vehicles to transport Containers in the Port of LA, Stater Bros. Markets highlighting green programs, and Keynote Speaker, Mayor Ron Loveridge from the City of Riverside discussing the green platform in Riverside.
October 25, 2012 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. will feature a USGBC Chapter event at DPR Construction, 4665 Mac Arthur Court, Suite 100 in Newport Beach discussing achieving LEED certification and a green building tour.Panelists will include Whitney Dorn and Zach Pannier of DPR and Betty Casties and Erron Williams of the Irvine Company.
The USGBC-OC Chapter is currently calling for 2013 nominations for Board of Directors candidates.The USGBC-OC Chapter's mission is to engage all Green Building stakeholders to be the conduit of change for a more sustainable Orange County through innovative communication, education, resources and advocacy.
