New Insulating Paper from 3M Combines Dielectric Performance and Durability

ThermaVolt AR Insulating Paper calendared insulating paper is made of a new, breakthrough material developed to deliver dielectric and thermal stability and mechanical strength

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Manufacturers of transformers, generators and motors now have an option in insulating papers that can deliver both performance and durability. ThermaVolt AR Inorganic Insulating Paper from 3M combines some of the best properties of inorganic material with mechanical strength to provide a high-performing and long-lasting insulation.

ThermaVolt AR Insulating Paper is an inorganic, calendered insulating paper made of a new, breakthrough material developed by the Electrical Markets Division to meet the needs of its customers. The proprietary 3M material provides improved mechanical strength along with exceptional thermal and dielectric stability for high-temperature electrical insulation applications. The material combines the best features of inorganic paper technology - exceptional thermal conductivity, low moisture content, long-time voltage endurance and varnish absorption - with a rugged fiber backbone. Strong, stiff and tear resistant, the insulating paper stands tough in some of the harshest environments. Yet, it remains flexible and conformable for easy application and space savings.

A UL-recognized insulation, ThermaVolt AR Insulating Paper is suitable for use in a variety of electrical insulation applications in systems rated through Class 220(R). It can be used in open-ventilated, dry-type transformers for major ground insulation, minor insulation, core wrap, insulation between HV/LV windings, inter-winding insulation and turn insulation. The insulating paper is available in thicknesses from 3 to 11.5 mils.

The ThermaVolt AR Inorganic Insulating Paper from 3M is available through distributors serving original equipment manufacturers.
