Dmitri Mehlhorn to Join Bloomberg Law as Chief Operating Officer

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Bloomberg today announced that Dmitri Mehlhorn has been named Chief Operating Officer of Bloomberg Law, the innovative real-time legal research system from the world leader in data and information services. Mehlhorn will join Bloomberg effective October 8, and report directly to Bloomberg Law CEO Greg McCaffery.

Mehlhorn has held high-level leadership positions in the legal, research and public policy sectors, including as a member of the executive committee of O'Melveny & Myers and as managing director of Global Research & Operations for Gerson Lehrman Group, where he launched a suite of successful products including several which involved partnerships with top law firms. He most recently served as COO for StudentsFirst, which he helped grow to a 1.8 million member organization.

"With Bloomberg Law, we are breaking the legal research mold with a product that specifically meets the evolving needs of the modern legal practice," said Dan Doctoroff, CEO and president of Bloomberg. "Throughout his career, Dmitri Mehlhorn has demonstrated a unique ability to build strong and innovative organizations that thrive outside of the status quo. I expect he will be a huge asset to Bloomberg Law."

In his new role, Mehlhorn will serve as a senior member of the Bloomberg Law management team, with oversight for the commercial efforts of the business. He will be responsible for the development and execution of Bloomberg Law's sales strategy and market planning activities for the groundbreaking legal research platform.

"Dmitri has unique perspectives from his time on the executive committee of a large law firm, as a practitioner of law at the highest levels, and as a proven head of sales in a related industry," said McCaffery. "We are delighted to welcome Dmitri to Bloomberg Law as we continue to grow an extraordinary product that is changing the landscape of the legal research industry."

"The opportunity here is tremendous," said Mehlhorn. "The legal profession is going through a period of rapid evolution and legal research is an enormous part of the cost structure for law firms and their clients. The innovation and economic logic that Bloomberg Law brings to legal research is especially suited to meet the needs of the changing profession. Moreover, Bloomberg Law offers law firms vast new capabilities to strengthen their non-litigation departments and business development efforts."

Mehlhorn joins Bloomberg from StudentsFirst, the national education reform movement, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and helped build the organization to 1.8 million members. Previously, he spent seven years at Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG), the premier enterprise platform for connecting to experts and their insights. At GLG, his roles included managing director of global research, head of new market sales, and head of the Legal, Economic, and Regulatory Affairs practice. Prior to joining GLG, he was an antitrust counsel at O'Melveny & Myers, where he also served as a member of the firm's executive committee. Mehlhorn started his career at McKinsey & Company, where he was an engagement manager serving clients in various sectors.
