Chevron Selects Nations' Top Teen Tractor Restoration Experts

Finalists to Compete for National Title at 2012 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition

SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Chevron Products Company (a Chevron U.S.A. Inc. division) maker of the Delo® brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants, today announced the finalists for its 2012 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition. The event will bring the nation's top teen tractor restoration specialists to Indianapolis - during the 85th National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Convention - to compete for the national title. Twelve finalists from around the country have been chosen to compete in this year's event. Projects will be presented on October 24 and 25 with the champion announced on the evening of October 25.


The 2012 entries have been narrowed down to twelve finalists. These finalists have been invited to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis to present their projects to a panel of five seasoned tractor restoration experts. Projects will be graded on restoration process, results and documentation, as well as oral presentation and safety precautions.

The finalists and projects for the 2012 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition are:

  • Devine FFA: Devine, Texas - 1970 Case 1070

  • Dubiski Career High School: Grand Prairie, Texas - 1956 John Deere 420*

  • Eufaula FFA: Eufaula, Alabama -1951 Massey Harris 30

  • Hondo FFA: Hondo, Texas - 1950 John Deere A

  • Iowa Park FFA: Iowa Park, Texas - 1955 Ford 850

  • Melrose-Mindoro FFA: Melrose, Wisconsin - 1949 Allis Chalmers WD

  • Newton FFA: Newton, Kansas - 1947 Oliver 70 Industrial

  • Northwood FFA: Nappanee, Indiana - 1957 Farmall 450

  • Paso Robles High School: Paso Robles, California - 1935 Allis Chalmers Model M*

  • Rogers FFA: Rogers, Texas - 1955 Oliver Super 77

The 2012 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition marked the beginning of two exciting changes to the long-running program - opening the competition to non-FFA members and increasing the awards package. The Grand Champion will be awarded $10,000, double the amount of previous years, the Reserve Champion will now receive $5,000 and third place honors will be awarded $3,000.

About the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition

Since 1995 the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition has rewarded the determination, mechanical skills and business savvy of high school-aged tractor restoration experts from around the country. Through the restoration of an antique tractor, participants develop skills applicable to the modern business world. The skills needed for success in the program - equipment maintenance, teamwork, project management, budgeting, planning and marketing - help develop the participants into future leaders in the agriculture community.

All entrants to the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition are required to submit a workbook detailing the entire tractor restoration process, from mechanical overhauls of the engine, transmission and auxiliary and ancillary systems, to the external appearance of the tractors. The 12 finalists (8 FFA entrants and 4 open) are invited to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis to present their projects to a panel of five professional tractor restorers. Projects are graded on restoration process, results and documentation, as well as oral presentation and safety precautions.
