Apple Sells 5 Million iPhones Over Weekend

Apple's (NAS: AAPL) iPhone 5 sold more than 5 million units over the weekend, the company reported, selling out of its initial supply. This is more than the previous iPhone sold in its opening weekend, but below what some analysts had anticipated for the newest gadget.

Shipping times for the new iPhone 5 are now three to four weeks. It is slated to be on sale in 22 countries by the end of the month.

An interesting feature of the new phone is that Verizon iPhone 5's are compatible with AT&T's SIM cards, effectively making those versions compatible with two separate carriers, according to reports, which is not usually the case.
